Hackers Steal $6M from Base Network: Incident in Aave

A significant amount of cryptocurrency assets, valued at approximately $6 million, has been withdrawn by attackers from a vault located within the Base network. According to data from the analytics platform PeckShieldAlert, the attacking address successfully executed the withdrawal, resulting in substantial losses. The total damage is estimated at around 1783 wstETH, equivalent to the mentioned dollar amount.
An analyst operating under the pseudonym Kuncoro provided further details of the incident, specifying that it affected a position within the decentralized protocol Aave. This indicates a vulnerability associated with the utilization of funds within this DeFi service. Currently, the compromised wallet holds a debt of 11,761 aWETH, with approximately $7.25 million worth of USDC serving as collateral.
This incident highlights the persistent risks in the decentralized finance sector, despite the active development and popularization of networks like Base. Users actively involved in cryptocurrency exchange operations, looking to buy BTC with rubles or swap USDT, should pay close attention to the security of their assets and choose reliable platforms. This case once again draws attention to the need for enhanced protection measures in the crypto space, especially when dealing with DeFi protocols and large sums, where the price of Ethereum and other assets can fluctuate.
While the specifics of the attack are still under investigation, the incident on the Base network serves as a reminder of the importance of a comprehensive approach to security in a crypto exchange. Thorough smart contract audits and continuous vulnerability monitoring remain key tasks for all market participants. Ruber Exchange, as a reliable crypto exchange, prioritizes the security of transactions and its clients' funds.
