Large Crypto Exchange from $10,000: How Not to Lose on the Rate and the Checks

On a large amount, half a percent is no longer small change: on 10,000 dollars it is 50 dollars, on 100,000 — 500. Large amounts also get more questions about the source of funds.
So a large exchange is prepared in advance: you calculate the total, check the limits and gather documents before the deal, not during it.
Where losses come from
Total losses = the exchanger’s markup (a percentage) + the network fee (a fixed amount).
Example: you exchange USDT for rubles. A 1% markup on 10,000 dollars is 100 dollars; on 100,000 it is 1,000 dollars. The network fee barely changes. So on large amounts the markup is what matters, and you should know it in advance.
At Ruber the rate and final amount are shown before you confirm the order. The rate for buying USDT is the Bank of Russia rate plus 3.5%, already inside the rate.
Limits and check thresholds at Ruber
| Amount | What is required |
|---|---|
| Up to 15,500 dollars per card operation | A standard identity check |
| 15,500 dollars or more | Confirm the card and documents are yours: a selfie with your passport and a selfie with the card |
| More than 31,000 dollars a month | Additionally — source-of-funds documents |
| Clients aged 18–21 and over 60 | Source of funds is asked earlier — from 8,000 dollars at once or per month |
The form shows exact limits after you choose the payment method. Details in the limits answers.
Why splitting the amount is risky
A series of transfers just below a threshold looks like structuring to avoid checks. Banks and services notice it and ask questions — sometimes more strictly than for one large operation. Besides, at Ruber deals add up: the monthly threshold counts them all together.
If the amount is large, it is better to declare it honestly and prepare documents.
Which documents to prepare
- an income certificate or account statement;
- a property or car sale contract;
- inheritance or gift documents;
- a brokerage report if the money comes from selling securities;
- proof of buying the crypto if you are selling it: orders, statements.
It is better to prepare a document in advance than to search for it mid-deal. Certificates from government bodies take weeks.
Individual terms
If the amount exceeds the usual limits, contact support and choose “Individual exchange terms”. State the amount, currencies and direction. The limit is raised for a specific deal, not for a month ahead.
For companies and large deals on individual terms there is a separate section — “For business”.
How to protect a large deal
- Work with a company you can find in a registry, and pay it using the order details.
- Check the whole wallet address and choose the network explicitly.
- Start with a small part of the amount — a test transfer shows everything is right.
- Do not discuss the amount and timing with outsiders, and ignore messages “from a manager” you never wrote to.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a large exchange into parts?
Yes, if there is a reason — for example, you do not want to exchange everything at one rate. But not to avoid checks: deals add up, and splitting raises questions.
How long does a large exchange take?
The exchange itself is the same as usual. Time goes into checking documents if the amount is above the thresholds. So it is better to prepare them before the deal.
Do I need to prove the source of money from selling crypto?
Yes, if the amount is above the threshold. Orders and statements showing where and when you bought the crypto will do.
