How to Create a USDT Crypto Wallet in 10 Minutes: Step by Step

Your own wallet is the first thing you need to exchange rubles for crypto: coins are sent only to your address. Setting one up takes about 10 minutes, even if you have never used crypto before.
If this is your first time, that is normal — most of our clients started the same way. Below is a step-by-step guide using Trust Wallet, plus what to do for the TON and Solana networks.
Which wallet you need
You need a non-custodial wallet — one where only you hold the keys. Neither the app developer nor an exchange service can move your coins. And nobody can restore access if you lose your recovery phrase.
An exchange account is not the same thing. While coins sit on an exchange, the exchange controls them: it can freeze withdrawals or ask for documents. An exchange address is fine for receiving USDT, but keeping savings there means depending on its rules.
Five USDT networks and what the address looks like
| Network | Address format | Fee for sending is paid in | Suitable app |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRC-20 (Tron) | starts with T, 34 characters | TRX | Trust Wallet, TronLink |
| TON | starts with UQ or EQ, 48 characters | TON | Tonkeeper, Trust Wallet |
| Solana | 32 to 44 letters and digits | SOL | Phantom, Trust Wallet |
| BEP-20 (BNB Chain) | starts with 0x, 42 characters | BNB | Trust Wallet, MetaMask |
| ERC-20 (Ethereum) | starts with 0x, 42 characters | ETH | Trust Wallet, MetaMask |
BEP-20 and ERC-20 addresses look the same, but they are different networks. Always choose the network explicitly, not by how the address looks.
Nine steps: a wallet in Trust Wallet
Trust Wallet supports all five networks at once, so we start with it.
- Download the app from the official store. App Store or Google Play, developer — Trust Wallet. Skip links from ads and chats: fake apps are a common way to steal money.
- Create a new wallet. On the first screen choose “Create a new wallet” and set a passcode. It protects access on this phone.
- Get your recovery phrase. It is 12 words in a fixed order. Whoever knows these words owns the wallet.
- Write it down on paper. By hand, in order, without mistakes. Do not take photos or keep it in notes, email or messengers. Store it where you keep your documents.
- Confirm the phrase. The app asks you to pick the words in order to make sure you wrote them down.
- Find USDT on the right network. Type USDT in search and pick the network: for example, Tether USDT on Tron is TRC-20. If the coin is not on the home screen, switch it on.
- Tap “Receive”. The app shows the address and QR code for this exact network.
- Copy the whole address. You will paste it into your exchange order. After pasting, check the entire address against the original — not just the first and last characters.
- Get some of the network’s coin for fees. You can receive USDT without it. To send USDT further, the wallet needs the network’s coin: TRX for TRC-20, TON for TON, SOL for Solana. The app shows the fee before sending.
If you need TON or Solana
Trust Wallet supports both: find USDT on the network you need and take the address the same way, via “Receive”. You can also use dedicated apps — Tonkeeper for TON and Phantom for Solana. The steps are the same: new wallet, phrase on paper, address from “Receive”.
One TON detail: when you send USDT to an exchange, it often asks for a comment (memo). Without it the deposit is delayed. A personal wallet does not need a comment.
Five rules that protect your money
- The recovery phrase stays on paper and with you only. Neither wallet support nor a Ruber operator will ever ask for it. Anyone who asks is a scammer.
- The network must match. A TRC-20 address accepts only USDT on Tron. Coins sent on another network can be lost.
- Check the whole address. Some malware replaces a copied address with the scammer’s. Checking takes 10 seconds.
- Start a large amount with a small one. A test transfer shows that the address and network are right.
- Apps and updates only from the official store.
Where to check that coins arrived
Every transfer is visible in a blockchain explorer: tronscan.org for TRC-20, etherscan.io for ERC-20, bscscan.com for BEP-20, tonviewer.com for TON, solscan.io for Solana. Paste the address or transaction ID to see the amount and status. This data comes from the network itself, not from an exchange’s website.
How to receive USDT to your new wallet
Open the exchange calculator, choose the coin and network, enter the amount and paste your wallet address. The rate and fee are shown before you pay. Pay in rubles with a card in your name or via SBP — the coins are sent to your address.
An identity check is mandatory for every client — anti-money-laundering rules require it. The documents you need are listed in the identity check answers.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a wallet cost?
Nothing: wallet apps are free. You only pay the network fee when you send coins.
Can I open a wallet with Ruber?
No. We do not open wallets or hold clients’ coins — crypto goes to your own wallet.
What if I lose my phone?
If your recovery phrase is written down, nothing bad happens. Install the app on a new phone and restore the wallet with the 12 words. Without the phrase, nobody can restore access.
Do I need a separate wallet for each network?
No. Trust Wallet keeps USDT on different networks in one app. But each network has its own address.
Do I need an identity check to create a wallet?
Not for a non-custodial wallet. The check is done when you exchange.
